英语写作中级提高技巧：给参加与不参加我口语培训的朋友们的礼物

英语写作有许多不同技巧，对于不同的同学来说，什么是口语，什么是书面语，都比较难于分清。在这里我想就自己的一些写作的技巧与方法和大家一起分享，并且拿出我自己看的一些书上的内容来与大家讨论一样，以便于所有并不参加我的口语一对一辅导的同学可以自己自学。

2 u# N& w9 D. y/ B, \口语与书面语不同在于，口语需要的词汇量要小得多。我们初中到高中一直学的都是英语中的口语，对于书面语几乎没有怎么学。这样造成的结果就是写作起来全是口语词汇和用法。在网上看到有的同学敢于拿出自己的文章给其他同学批评，感觉是一件好事。但其实好多问题都是从一开始就可以避免的。

我在这里争取每个星期写一点自己的东西，所以需要花一些时间，请大家见谅。

  k# s0 Z# t& n中国人写作第一大问题就是不够简洁。我第一次写文章时写到the step of time is going faster，英语老师读后立即把它改成了the time is going faster。我问他为什么不能这样写，不能让这种有修辞的方法存在，他就说，这是多余。换句话说，我们中国人认为是好的修饰方法，在英语里是不能随便滥用的。用后只会画蛇添足。

我来举几个常用例子，希望对大家简化写作有启示。这些例子都来自于我对一些看过的书上的句子的总结和归纳，抛砖引玉之用。

  s; W- `  R- J- }. w        Changed to : Our aim is to ensure proper health care for all Chinese

2)        This article will help you master the basic skills of good writing

Changed to:  This article will help you master the skills of good writing.

请注意，定语从句一般只用于口语中，写作也有但不要事事都用此句型。因为说话时考虑时间短，则用定语从句较简单，但写作时，这种定语从句都可以换成其它方式代替，简单而好看。

6 A3 G( }, ]3 v1 g! @2 m# D, |注意，WHILE表时间时的从句，也是一种冗长，只有当用while表转折来描述客观事物时，用在经济写作中才是书面语。所以一般改成如下

During our table tennis she started her exercises that lasted all morning.
' N6 j- X' x7 _; j4 q* ?! s6 I
5)        The wonderful book, which is written in 5 chapters, described a story that took place in the Middle Ages.

6 _/ X8 u# H& O9 `1 f) h9 o3 v" q4 c这里要注意，遇到定语从句就多想想能否代替一下。最好改成

The five-chapter book has told a story set in the Middle Ages.


( v7 M& I; P1 K3 F0 G) H和我给大家培训口语时一样，结束时我都会留几个小作业。这里留几句话，请大家来试试能不能改得简洁一些，但意思不变。当然，只能改得更漂亮，不能改丑了：）

1)        Suzhou is where one can find some 2000 pavilions and towers

2)        It must be remembered that we have no power, no influence. We do not have money or authority. All we have is a willingness to persevere and the hope that we shall conquer soon.
